    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden 6 годин тому

      Hi there! Dusty Millers can be a little tricky sometimes because it depends on which one you are growing. Take a look at the interior of the plant; the inner stems and even the crown (icydk: the soil surface where the roots and shoots meet) to see if any new shoots or leaves are starting to grow. If so along any inner stems (inside the canopy) or growing up from the crown, you can then give your plant a decent "hair cut" to re-establish it's size and form. This can be pruning away 1/3 of the total plant canopy or much more drastic, depending on the situation. If you do this, be sure before hand that the plant is well hydrated and in the best health it can be so it can take this pruning stress and can recover faster. Also do this type of pruning during this time of year on more cloudy day and in the earlier morning so sun intensity and heat are at their lowest possible and aren't already stressing the plant out. If you plant isn't exhibiting any inner new growth or crown growth right now, wait to see if it does the next month or two and then prune away what you need to. We should make a video on this because we end up doing this every year to our dusty miller's and it can be a little tricky and subjective to specific conditions. Hopefully that helps and you can assess your plants accordingly. Let us know how it goes!

    Where do I cut on the dead flower 🥀

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden 6 годин тому

      Good question. You can make your cut on the stem of the dead flower just above where the next leaf or stem internode is below that flower.

    What if I have already planted them?

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden 6 годин тому

      Hi there! It's actually ok if you have planted them already because they hopefully are getting situated in their new soil and will be stronger and recover faster when you make your cuts or pinches on the leggy stems. You can go ahead and remove the leggy stems now. Give them some fertilizer afterwards so they can start growing those new, more compact stems and more flowers for you. 😉😊

    When dead heading do you just take the flower off,or do you cut the stem off from the bottom? Thanks

    • @SpokenGarden
      @SpokenGarden 6 годин тому

      Hey there! Good question. Follow the stem down to it's point of attachment and make your cut just above that point. This could be right above the plant crown, and that's fine. 👍😉😀

    One of the many major limbs (codominant?) is leaning and pointing to our roof from our side yard. Other limbs are growing straight up and seem fine. I am thinking of cutting the problem limb at the base. Do you think that's a good idea? I wonder something like that could cause issues for the tree down the road.

    Acquired my first Angelonia yesterday. Mine’s the blue bi-color, which reminds me so much of wild violets. I’m adding mine to mini hybrid petunias and a lemon-coral sedum which both will trail over the pot. Im super excited to try this in my containers as well as perhaps in the cottage garden alongside my larkspur. Exciting plant!!
